Common Mat Solutions

Puzzle Mats provide the cheapest home alternative. The pieces are found in a variety of sizes and colors, and snap together like a puzzle, hence their namesake. Puzzle mats also vary in thickness, but are generally to thin/dense to practice any impact grappling, leaving much to be desired in take down practice. They can be found in a variety of places, but generally the best deals are often at warehouse supply stores like Costco or Sam's Club.

A step-up in home mat solutions is finding a local gym, school, or athletic center replacing their old wrestling mats. Often times this is the cheapest and best solution. The mats are typically just old and can be cleaned and patched rather easily. The mats allow for takedowns and full contact grappling without the extreme price of new mats. The only problem is their limited availability to the average buyer.

Another solution, albeit more costly, is Zebra Mats. These Mats are of a more dense variety than puzzle mats (Available in 1.5" to 2") and come in a variety of colors. The company has a variety of styles and costs are variable depending on those styles, typically a better deal is found by buying in bulk.
