Maybe back in action

[ Mood: Happy ]
Just got back from the Doc. He somewhat cleared me to return to training - I trained one day since I got injured (which was my last blog injury) - that day was the day before I went to the Doc the last time, when he didn't clear me. He gave me some tests to do, and said I just had to go by feel. So thats good. Other than the one day of training, my exercise has been zero. I was real busy at work though, and technically, it was likely one of the better things for my career to actually not have been going to class these last 2 months. I still didn't quite get the work done I needed, but there would have been no way if I was sneaking off to jiu jitsu.
I may try to return tonight after I do my tests.
I hope that ends my pretournament bad luck streak - ie. car wreck, mild concussion, then this knee thing. This just goes to show that you should never wait to enter a tournament - just go, as you never know what's going to happen the day before the one you planned for. In my case, I competed anyway for two of those circumstances. I couldn't walk without the crutches for this last go around.

Good thing you're getting back. I think i'll be going back any day now. I can do anything, although when I do hard ab exercise, I still feel some pain starting to form, so i'll give it a few more days.
Stupid hernia took me out for a good 33 days, but I seem to have beaten it. Now to go train my new Roger Gracie style pass guard, mount, and cross choke

Well Mat, you can always try to train the drills and such or even roll - just avoid the heavy ab exercises silly. Hopefully, the break will have let all the little things that were torn up heal elsewhere, and you'll be back better than ever. Usually when you get a break of about a month or more, your game will solidify more in your head, and you'll actually be better than you would have if you've trained that same time. You get an opportunity like this once every 6 months to a year I think. Any more extended breaks than that and your worse off than if you trained. I like your new training plan. If you stick to that and forget about your triangles you'll get better for the long haul... like winning a brown or black belt tournament. If you stick to just going for the tap via triangle/armbar, I"m not sure if you'll even see those belts on your waist, or rather not at the pace one would expect. If you plan on showing up to the pan am this year, it will really help... trust me, I've seen your competition.
Anyway, I trained today. Our teacher taught us a pretty weird armbar escape -
this one is for when they slap an armbar on from the guard. Instead of wrapping your arms up RNC style, you kind of make a CPR set up - ie. the hand thats free goes on top of your other hand. Then you pressure him up like normal and get your leg up and behind his butt as usual to get his hips up. But, rather than free your arm, you move sideways and use your head to collapse him into the fetal position, and from there you fight to free your hand and pull him into 100K
My knee didn't hold up the hottest, the ligament was pretty sore afterward. I wore my brace. Just being up on my knees is what's doing it. I'm also stuck again without the ability to bend them all the way so I can't sit back all the way - ie when in someone's guard or holding someone in the mount. I went against a new blue belt and did mat's new dream scenario, haha - pass, 100k, mount - that's where I noticed I couldn't sit down, and I was leaning to the right - I did get the cross choke though since I practiced it soo much, but felt mean for doing it, since he is basically a kid. Detail - can't get your hand in? go low on the guys lapel and use it to pry his elbow open, then sneak your hand in for the choke. It wasn't all that bad otherwise, other than doing the "warm-up" showed me that I'm way out of shape as compared to the old days when we had the old school "warm up".

oh yeah, one last thing.... it felt really good to be back in class.
Maybe I'll hit it again tomorrow -
Reminder - put the ice packs in the freezer.
