How enjoyable were your competition experiences

Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:39 am

Competing is a significant part in developing ones BJJ game (well for me at least). I love competing, I train hard, I dealt with the pressure from being nervous/excited in anticipating for the event, I changed my diet, etc just to get ready for it. The preparation for a tournament is long and hard so our expectations can be met, that gold medal hanging around our necks. Obviously not everything will go the way we expect it to be, there would bumps along the way, but we have to make do on what we have, small details that we learned from a seminar, or small adjustment in the drill that we were doing just a couple days prior will be part of our toolbox for them issues that may arise.

With all the hard work I put in for such an event, I would expect that the event Im going to or participating in should have had the same amount of effort in preparing to make the event run as smooth as it can. And the same as when fighting, they experience some minor problems, like your name not being in the bracket, or not even on the list of registrants or having your name in a completely different bracket (eg. adult-blue-with-one-15-year-old-as-an-opponent-when-you-clearly-signed-up-for-a-16-man-bracket) and so on and so forth. Small stuff like these gets me frustrated most of the times, that's why I go to ibjjf tourneys most of the time and some competitions that I think is well run, small to medium ones. Still there are things / circumstances like the ones enumerated about that happens, which in my opinion can easily be prevented.

Take this guy as an example:

Ultimately we don't want the hassle, and added stress of such when competing when we already worked so hard in training and that all we want is to just get on the mat and reap the results of our training.
With that said (shameless plug), I went ahead and made a small bracketing system, that promoters can use. Still in testing, but hopefully promoters can find it useful! I want this to be a "tool" promoters can use to minimize those small issues giving the participants a much more pleasant experience at the end of the day. so yeah let me know what you think! It'll basically give you match and bracket updates as well! It's a work in progress so please be patient big grin
