[ Eating Currently: Eating  ]
Apparently these intense training sessions took more out of me than I realized. There was class today from 11 to 2 and I just couldn't get out of bed to go there. I mean, I forced myself to get up, brush my teeth... But then I realized that I still haven't eaten anything and that there is no point in going to practice if I'm already exhausted. Should have gotten more sleep during the night, I guess. I was awake till four.
I definetely need to work on my daily schedule to make sure everything fits and this doesn't happen again. Best way to overcome the body's limits (which I thought I didn't even have) is to walk right around them.

Saturday's class

Sun Jan 06, 2008 8:44 pm

Three hours of rolling, working passes, reversals and drilling with little rest periods inbetween. It seems I've developed more stamina than some stronger, more advanced guys who were sweating gallons after just over an hour on the mat.
I've been able to work on pretty much everything that I wanted to work on. Really got the details right on some moves.
Tapped the short new kid twice (RNC and a sort of rolling armbar). His short limbs really make it a pain.

Notes:
1) For the armbars, get the opponent's arm close to your hips. Also get your knees tightly together so that he can't move hs arm left or right.
2) For body triangles, make sure you don't do them sideways.

Things to work on:
1) Escapes
2) Taking the back
3) Reversals
4) Eight positions
5) Guard passes

Things to drill:
1) Collar chokes
2) Foot/ankle locks
3) Armbars. ALL of them. I think mine are OK, but I want them to be awesome.
4) Kimura, americana, paintbrush, etc.
5) Gulliotine from mount.
6) Ezekiel, both the Gi and the No Gi variation.

Tonight "MMA Class"

Thu Jan 03, 2008 12:16 am

Well, today's MMA class was basically regular Gi BJJ because so many people showed up. I don't remember the last time there were that many. I got beaten a few times, but I also pulled off an awesome armbar on a guy who couldn't breathe right.

Notes:
1)Elbow escape and the bridge and roll are not panacea. If the opponent puts you in high mount - you are in trouble. Need to find out how to fight that.
2)Find out the reason your collar chokes don't work when the opponent's collar is open.
3) One guy was doing a very rough variety of bjj tonight - kicked me on the side of the head when trying to armbar me from guard. I let him have it because I was tired of all the outmuscling that was going on, not because there was no way for me to escape. Pissed me off.
4)Drill and work positions tomorrow. Review. Grapple only at the very end.

Today was SUPER!

Wed Jan 02, 2008 12:36 am

[  Mood: Cool ]
[ Currently: About to go to sleep. ]
Alright, it's just like it sounds. I'm starting to get the hang of the uchimata, actually threw my partner a few times and he seemed impressed. Worked on the elbow escape, armbar from guard to triangle to omoplata. None of the usual extremely agressive guys were there so it was a calm, friendly athmosphere. We had a couple new students - I think that's part of the reason everyone was so nice - don't wanna scare the newcomers away. Laughing Anyway, I learned tons. Like the reason some of my techniques weren't working - the teacher showed me the stuff I was doing wrong. Damn, when you do it right it's very easy.
I tapped a newcomer with the gulliotine twice and a guy who came for the first time but said he trained in Brazil for a year and in US for 7 months with an RNC once. Same weight, but as usual - strength and speed were on my side. Didn't get tappped by anybody. I'm happy with what I've done today.
Also, I only ate breakfast of four eggs before coming to the academy at 6:30 pm. AND I got a lot of sleep. I think that may have had something to do with how well I did.

Notes:
1) When you go for amrbar from sidemount - keep your head down and don't think when you are trapping the opponent's arm. It's one natural motion: head down, and the arm that was grabbing your own wrist for the paintbrush grabs your own shoulder. Grab BELOW the opponent's elbow.
2) When doing a wrestler's choke from sidemount - one arm under the opponent's head, the other shoves his arm that is pushing my neck up across his own neck. Head goes down. Put the weight down. The knee closest to his head goes across his stomach first. Lionkiller the arms and make sure your hips are now 180 degrees from where they started.
3) When you do the triangle, keep your hips up, close to your opponent. To do so, you can rest your weight on your shoulders. Climb up his back with your feet - it helps. When you spin around - don't just spin. You have to actually move a little bit. Use the foot that you plan to kick over his head to push yourself a little bit.
4) For omoplata, raise your hips and keep your legs in a < < shape. Post a hand out so the opponent can't roll out of it.
5) Guard passes. Learned three. Or rather learned how to do them RIGHT. Posture up, knee in tailbone, knee across, do NOT get your hands between the opponent's legs.
6) For the elbow escape - get the elbow inside the knee.
Things to drill:
1) Armbar from sidemount
2) All the subs from guard
3) Front collar chokes, chokes from the back
4) Ankle lock and the heel hooks
5) Uchimata
6) Armbar escape
7) Gulliotine from MOUNT

Things to learn and work on:
1) Sweeps and reversals
2) Hip movement for the americana/kimura
3) How to take the back, how to transition between the eight positions
4) How to keep the opponent inside your guard
5) Sprawling, double leg, single leg
6) How to make kimura from sidemount work. Where the f*** u need to step and all that. Had a bit of a hard time with it today, though luckily it didn't matter.

Ok, that's enough for now. After having such a succesful experience rolling I feel great. Maybe I will even get the humility thing a try - it's not hard when you are feeling confident in your abilities. Looking forward to MMA class tomorrow!

Getting destroyed.

Sat Dec 29, 2007 10:15 pm

I'm getting destroyed when higher belts go after me aggressively. It's been like that for the last two days. Friday's MMA class was tough, but I've gotten tougher too. I'm learning to really use my hips when I punch.
I've been practicing the uchimata and armbar from sidemount though. Both are pretty cool.
I've also seen the instructor show some stuff against higher-ranked students for the first time. It was super cool and he is super competent.

Notes:
1) Get ALL the sweeps functional and ready.
2) Drill chokes from the front, chokes from the back.
3) Drill armbar from guard. Keep your hips up, close to your opponent, very strong hooks and balance on your shoulders.
4) Elbow escape times ten. Get the hip movement down.
