#1 |
So here it is folks the same watered down subject. I need a new gi this will be my second time buying one after a year of training 5-6 days a weeks multiple hours a day.
I'm 6'0 tall 162 lbs with very long limbs. My current gi is an A3 the top is just a tad loose but the pants have shrunk over time. Basically I'm looking for someone with the same body type to recommend a brand that has fit them well size wise and stood up to the constant abuse. _________________

I'm kinda small. Actually.. I'm very small. (5'3" and around 115lbs.) so I won't recomend you a gi that has worked for me but one of my professor's is very big. Quite opposite of my size.
He's about 6'3" or 6'5" (From my veiw. Not sure exactly how tall.) and he usually walks around at about 220. He said that the Oss and Lucky Gi's are the ones that he found to fit best.
A purple belt at my school is also pretty tall and I usually see him wear Tatami gi's. Actually, that's all I've ever seen him wear.
I hope I helped even a tiny bit. (Not sure if I really have though. ) |

My Redstar Stamp has been great. I have an A3L. A little pricey but really nice.
I also just got a Submission FC Light A4 that fits well (the pants are a little short though). Very light and well priced.
And finally Newaza Nation lets you buy half sizes and a different sized tops and pants. They just added white gis and at about ~$110 are a great deal for someone that needs customized fit.

If you want more options just look at my blog and look under BJJ Gis. I have a post that breaks down about a dozen manufacturers. The ones above are gis that I own and have worn. _________________ Mind Maps for BJJ Instructionals:

Depending on make you are between and A2 or an A3, it might be best to find a Gi you like, and we can advise on proper size; now-a-days all the Gis are alike, so you can't really go wrong with quality. _________________

I just got an Origin A3 tall .. I'm 6"1 @ 198 lbs and it fits me great. It is a great Gi. I would call Pete @ Origin and see what he has to say. _________________ Proud to be a part of the 97%

I don't understand how to be 6 foot tall and 160 ish. I'll be the first to admit I'm fat at my weight at just under that height and 230+..but jeezus dude. Eat something! If you are a young guy in a years time you could easily come up to a very lean 185 or more.
There was a time in college I got down to 175 and I swear I was skin and bones. That's not a healthy weight to be at and can't be an optimal weight for sports.
My squat and bench have both put one more than 100 pounds since then. |

160lbs is light for 6'00 grappler but it is considered to be a very healthy weight for a 6'00"... I m 5'11 and 185 and I could easily drop 10 pounds. I feels really unbelievable to read the comments where 6 feet tall persons are over 200lbs. They are either REALLY muscular or have a body fat way over 30% _________________ -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm 5'10" 175. I have a couple keiko racas. I own the gold weave and the limited.
The fit is nice and snug without limiting mobility one bit.(if that makes sense)
It's like the levi's 501 of gis. Not baggy, not too roomy, just nice and slim fitting
they've also kept perfect condition after everyday use and everyday washing.
the pants have a rope drawstring that does a really good job of keeping the pants on without slipping at all.
also the gold weave has a really...really stiff and thick lapel thats hard to get ahold of, and the fabric feels very durable.
the limited edition has a less stiff lapel and the fabric is softer and lighter but cooler to roll in. also the limited is in black and fades a 7/10 0 being no fading at all.
hope this helps. lmk if you got any questions |

Im 5'10 and 162lb right now, but I have the arms of someone who is 6'2 and the Fuji A3 is the only GI ive ever owned that fits my arms legally and isnt a huge tent on me.
Its also a medium weight GI, not a super light weight that falls apart faster. _________________ New to this site? Please review the rules

So as usual I'm here to thank you all for your advice! I chose a Tatami fightwear singleweave rip stop pants in blue for my day to day training and went with an Origin 2012 comp 550 in white for competition. Thanks again! _________________

For those that think being 163 lbs 8% body fat and 6'0 is small or unhealthy. It's actually quite the opposite that is a very healthy weight for someone of my height. I've tried to add weight through diet and pure lifting, but unfortunately I have a fast metabolism, my job as a tree climber and training as often as I do makes it close to impossible. I'm routinely rolling with people that have anywhere from 30-50 lbs weight advantage on me which in turn helps my stregnth simply from weight resistance. I've yet to find someone my size now that matches my stregnth (yes im bragging a bit). Well anyone that's not using something they shouldn't be using lol[/img] _________________
