#1 |
Hi guys! I was wondering if any of you live in or know of a city (anywhere in the civilized world) where there are people interested in learning BJJ but no one to learn from. Since my country sucks at everything but soccer, I was considering to move somewhere else to teach some BJJ.
Any suggestions?
BTW, I'm a brown belt under Roberto Tozi and I expect to get my black belt next year. |

You mean Spain? I love Spain! Great art, architecture, landscape etc.
Asia is probably a good option, especially China. I would expect BJJ will be growing exponentially over there in the next few years, so may be a good time to get in early to establish yourself.
I don't think there is all that much in Germany, particularly outside of the major cities. But the only scene I really know in detail is here in the UK (lots of BJJ all over the place, though there are a couple of places you might be able to make a go of it), so that could be completely wrong. _________________ BJJ Beginner FAQ, BJJ Product Reviews, GrappleThon.org (BJJ for Charity) |

Germany would be a good option for me, since there are many flights between the islands and there (because of German tourism), so it is kind of easy to get there. To be honest, I haven't considered Asia that much, but you're probably right, so I'll definitely put it on the list of possible destinations.
I trained in the UK for a while, in Edinburgh to be specific, and I had a great time there once I found the right place to train at, but I don't think there were so many good gyms around, at least in Scotland.

Thailand sounds good! I met this guy in Sweden who had been training there for months and I envied him...

A long while back, I saw a Muay Thai camp in Thailand that had both Thai fighters, Non-Thai guys looking to learn "at the source," AND tourist types training there and they were looking for a BJJ coach so as to become a more well-rounded fight academy. This was at least a year ago, as I hadn't started BJJ yet when I saw that.
Maybe that is an avenue to consider if you are looking at Thailand? Unless you are looking to open your own place, of course. _________________ Mitsuyo "Count Koma" Maeda - Carlos Gracie, Sr. -Carlson Gracie - Gabriel "Gladiator" Santos - Me |

Philippines. Good people. Nice vibe. Cheap cost of living.
We have 3 major teams here Atos [WOOHOO!], Deftac, and Kamphuis Fabricio. And a few smaller schools.
Any addition would be welcomed in the community. |

| I think Germany is a very good idea, I have to admit I have no idea what the BJJ scene is like over there, but it's probably the most economically stable and affluent country in Europe right now, have always found it to be a very friendly country too, with many beautiful cultured cities and countryside. |

We'd love to have any skilled grapplers opening or training in schools in the US!
We have a big country and a big market...many are totally different than the others. If it were myself, i would really research the US Florida, California, and New York areas. It could probably take you a year each to understand each of those areas...but they're all great places to live with wonderful opportunities. From what I know those places plus Texas are the main areas in the US to land and do grappling.
However...if you are looking for a nice place to live and somewhere where ther eis no grappling. I'd seriously consider the North/South Carolina Coast. There are some well trained people in Myrtle Beach, but between there and Virginia as far as I know there is very little. That may speak to the volume of interest in these areas, but they are great places to live and NC as a whole is filled with a bunch of folks who love to roughhouse.
I don't know about the economics of it..but If I could hand pick a place to do it I'd have an acadamy to train at just a few minutes inland of topsail island in NC I suspect because it's not already there the population doesn't support it..but that is an awesome area to live if you could. |
