Heh - well, I guess revenge is good too.

Awesome! I'm sure it will get plenty of hits and comments, especially as you've got a fairly unique angle, given your years of strength training and body building. A lot of blogs by women discuss how its difficult being smaller and weaker, so a blog by a woman who is actually bigger and stronger than many of her training partners makes for a very interesting contrast.

Oh, and cool vid!

You already have a blog here with your account, where updates are posted to the front page when you add to it.

Just click CONFIG in the blog menu on the left side of the screen.

You can see everyone elses blogs here too

Can't really compare to massive sites like Blogger or Wordpress if you're looking for maximum exposure, though. Those always pop up high in search results: e.g., if I google 'bjj women', the first hit I get is a Wordpress blog on the topic.

Still, I see the ones on here have got an RSS feed, so looks like a few I could stick in my Google Reader, and onto the general BJJ blog index.

Hmm: or maybe not. Just tried, and I keep getting a 'feed could not be found' error. Also reminds me that maintaining regular updates on your blog is really important, or people stop reading them.

I only read peoples blogs on this site, because they are right there in my face when I visit it daily. When I publish an entry, it automatically gets traffic from the community here.

Ah: if you just want to respond to her post, you don't need to log into blogspot. You can just respond at the bottom (though you might need to set up a wordpress account: that's what I do for her site, but you may also be able to respond without logging in to BJJ Grrl).

I'd suggest that you first set up your blog, put in an introductory post, maybe explaining your situation (e.g., something about how its difficult to find good training partners when you're a muscular woman.

After you've done that, THEN respond, with something like "this blog is awesome, I found the advice really helpful. Its inspired me to start up my own training blog, here [stick in the link there, like this here]".

That should mean that all the women reading BJJ Grrl will then be made aware of your own blog and check it out, after which they can put up advice. Might even find that there are women from Atlanta reading.

Its how I normally find new blogs: someone will put up a comment on a blog I read, and they'll have their own blog linked somewhere in the post (if they've got an account on Wordpress or Blogger, they can set their blog as their homepage, which will mean clicking on their name takes you to their site).

Funny thing is I had a 12 page journal on RX Muscle on my training, my struggles, my tourneys, mat gossip....etc... am the only FBB who trains martial arts on there and the journal got an enormous amount of views...about 2500 in 2 months. I did not think those bastards were worthy of keeping any of it especially with me detailing technique to all those stupid mindless drones. I deleted the entire journal including all photo galleries. THEN, i resigned. lol

Heh - fair enough. I hope you kept it offline somewhere, as it would be a shame to lose it entirely. Wink

By the way, here is a video of me. Its a compilation video, of feats of strength as well as when I got my blue SmileSmile

The gold cart is a 750lb YAMAHA
The Tire flip is an 800lb state record. Actually there isn't a strength athlete in the state who has ever done that.

Like I said, not much of an exhibitionist, believe it or not. Certainly not everyones cup of tea either...and certainly not BJJ female friendly. The guys don't mind it though Smile They are actually very accpeting of me and take a big interest in my training and always ask me for diet and training advice Smile

so thanks for the compliments. Smile

As for the pictures...photoshoots...more bodybuilding bullsh*t

Okay, I'm LOL'ing here.... after reading some of these replies, I had to go look at the vid (I generally avoid vids altogether because my computer is really slow and prone to crashing). After all the talk about how huge you are and how all of the women are too intimidated to spar with you, I was picturing some behemoth human being about the size of a couple of Volkwagons piled on top of each other. You're really not half as much a scary freak as you led me to believe! Razz Now I lose my sympathy for the female grapplers who won't spar with you.

You guys have been real nice and supportive of my in this transition. Today i spoke with our 48kg who is going to Seoul November 17th for the Olympic Weight Lifting Worlds championship. We've discussed her training with me when she gets back so that I continue to lift and improve my speed and explosiveness which has done wonders for me on the mat.

You look great. Good proportion. You'd fit right in over here in SoCal.

Do you plan on staying HW or are you gonna tinker with diet/training to optimize for BJJ? ...I'm not implying that you'd need to, or that HW for you isn't optimal - just curious.

Oh no. I could not do that. I like the way I look. I have worked extremely hard to pack on the mass and maintain it. It took years to condition it, to where I was leaner every year at the same weight. I am very limber, in excellent cardiovascular shape, (i could use some work on my breathing), and actually ligther now than I have ever been. I was bigger believe it or not, but it was not attractive...to me at least. I actually was contemplating putting some of the muscle I lost back on while continuing to work on my fleibility and cardio.
I am going to be making serious adjustments to my diet as well.

I had a rough day. I heard the coach said some really hurtful things from one of the lifters. It was really upsetting.

I am going to see a new training facility tomorrow. I was told they had excellent platforms and bumper plates. I will be training there tomorrow to see how I like the place...

Rickson Gracie I feel so weird.

Ok, Confession time. Iw wrote the letter to my coach...i have not given it to him yet. lol

sorry guys...i am in dire need of a foot up my a.s.s to do it. It almost like I need closure...I need to say my peace....I was dying to tell him I AM GOING TO THE BJJ PANAMS AND I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE AMERICAN OPEN!

Just sit on the letter for a few days. After the emotion clears a bit and you have time to mull it over, if you still want to send it, then send it.

If he's being a jerk by talking smack about you behind your back, that sucks... but you can choose to take the high road. Just the act of writing such a letter and being able to spew on paper is very cathartic and may be all you need.

**Or**

you can let him have it between the eyes, because he has it coming. flip off

Giving it a couple of days is a good way to solidify which is the best decision for you.

I wouldn't worry about age. I'm 46 and I can tell you that I feel broken all the time but still enjoy rolling. At 29 yer just a "kid".

As for not fitting in anywhere...well everyone fits somewhere. It's not for us to choose how we look. But I am pretty sure that the discipline req'd to become a competitive lifter is 100% transferrable to becoming a competitive BJJ player cause the mind is primary in this game.

You are right here.....you can go either way, but it is never a good thing to burn a bridge based on what could be a snap emotional thing. I always have to ask myself what exactly I am going to get out of telling someone off. If it is not going to directly benefit me and it will cause a problem for the person then what is the point? Also I look at taking the higher road and being the bigger person. I do not have to answer to anyone but myself and my concious so think first about whether or not it is worth it to stoop to their level.

Life changes and they need to realize that where you are concerned, but that is a two way street. Just remember that the vicious circle that is life will put you back in the path of those same people and you will regret negativity that you put out there.....don't let that happen, let them feel like jackasses. thumbsup

That is very true. I did not want to burn that bridge. Actually, there is a part of me that still wants my coach to be involved in my training. He is a hall of famer and one of the best in the world. It would be nice if he could help me change my regimen to where it would benefit my BJJ. Maybe even help me prepare for the PanAms.

I had an awful day. Just awful. I am not sure who or where to turn to anymore. I decided to go to this new training facility to lift, away from my team mates and away from the drama...and felt so much better for the first time in ages. I just felt relieved. A new sense of purpose. I remembered what it was like to lift for the love of the Iron. Not to please coaches or bring home medals, but for me.

That made me quite sad. And like I was not feeling miserable enough, I bump into our 48kg who is going to the World championship in Seoul on the 17th of November. She gave me s*** about alot of things...and all I wanted to do was do right by coach, to show him he was appreciated despite my change of heart.

So I tore the letter up and sent him a text message instead like a wuss saying that I needed help getting ready for the PanAms. Just like that.

In BJJ tonight I asked my friends if they thought I was good enough, if they thought I could be good enough someday..I was just feeling like I had quit something I was really good at that did not make me happy to do something I was mediocre at, that did. Its almost like I needed reassurance that I my team mates thought I had potential to be something. One guy took me aside and said I could be the Alliance golden girl. Maybe he was just trying to be nice. But I would really like to believe that right now.

I have never been in such a messed up predicament in my entire life.
I want closure so bad I can hardly eat or sleep.

Not once during my entire time as a lifter did ANYONE make me feel like I could actually accomplish anything of substance, yet on the mat everyone is supportive of me and makes me feel worthy. Even Jacare shows me more attention and watches me roll.

The only place I can voice my thoughts is on this forum because when I take my concerns to the lifters they make me feel like crap about myself.
I let little 90lb females that I can launch to another state make me feel bad.

I need to get a grip. Maybe if I was not so sensitive and considerate and always wanting to do the right thing, I would have flipped them all the bird and walked out without an explanation.

ahh
