#1 |
So i've been doing my best to drink a gallon of water a day, but it's really hard to keep up with how much i've drank unless i drink from a gallon jug. So i started off just filling up the same jug over and over, However, as i continue to refill it, it seems to get this almost musty smell that forms inside the jug.
I've read somewhere that the plastic can breakdown into the water, but i guess my question is, is this sanitary/healthy? If not what do you guys do to keep track of your water intake? |

Use a bottle you can wash maybe? It's kind of hard to clean an milk jug. I use my protein shaker bottle for my water all the time.
Or you could get one of these and strap it under your shirt. That way you'll have a secret. Everyone like's a good secret.

dude, you have to wash the jug...squirt some dish soap in it fill it half way with hot water and shake it up. rinse it out a couple times or until the soap suds are gone, then you're all set.
also if putting water in plastic jugs was not safe they probably wouldn't be sold and stored that way. although every couple weeks its good to get a new jug cause sometimes they get beat up and the cap doesn't stay on that well or the seam on the handle breaks...nothing worse than going to drink some water and it all spills down your f***ing shirt. |

One drop of saliva has over 100,000 bacteria in it. How many drops of saliva have made their way into that jug? Wash it or get a new one.. pronto! _________________ Andrew

First you should wash the jug. Second you should probably not drink from plastic as most forms of plastic have BPA and even if they are BPA free it's still a plastic product that can leach chemicals into your water.
Best bet is to buy a Stainless Steel water bottle. Kleen Canteens are awesome, as are the liberty bottles. |

Actually, most plastic containers for water are for one use only, they aren't made for refills, and the composition allows bacteria and other microbes to attach to the walls. If you are trying to be cheap, then buy a new one every 3rd use or something. And yes, compounds in the plastic do leach into the water.... but that isn't the problem, it's stuff growing in it. Trust me, I'm a biochemist. At least your boosiing your immune system I guess, but harboring toxins and hosting foreign organisms on the other. By now, you are drinking enough water that you shouldn't need to measure it anyway. If you pee clear, you're good. _________________ Answer: Just go to class |

Water bottles that are designed to be re-used are not expensive, usually they are barely any more than pre-filled disposable one.
I've never seen the logic of a huge water jug anyway. I prefer to use smaller ones, and just count the refills per day. This way you can rinse the bottle out more frequently, and be drinking fresh COLD water more often. |

| The alternative is to drink water like a normal person out of a glass. Keep a notepad handy if your OCD about it. |

If you've got a fancypants smartphone, most have water-tracking apps you can get for free. I used one of those for a while, it was pretty handy.
The one I had would allow you to say whether it was a bottle of water (16oz), a glass (8oz) or some other container full that you drank, so if you wanted to get down to it, it would track it to the ounce (or ml, for you guys outside of the US).
That way you can keep track without using the same gross jug every day. |

If you were a nut you can actually buy flowmeters for water bottles. Kinda like a pedometer but for the truly anal.
Saw one for the first time 3 months ago. Blew my mind. |
