So my wife and I bought a juicer, and we’ve been juicing like crazy. Any juicers among you? (despite the misleading, yet attention grabbing title, I’m not talking about the use of steroids, lol)
We were experimenting all weekend. This morning, however, I tried my best to make the Renergy juice (Rener Gracie’s energy health juice). I watched his video on it, and although he did not specify exact amounts, I did my best to copy.
The ingredients (for about 4 cups worth, which served my wife and myself) were as follows.
The leafy bits from 11 really leafy stems of Kale.
1 large cucumber
1 medium green bell pepper
1 large bunch of broccoli
5 radishes
3 large beets
3 large carrots (added these for taste, though they weren’t in the video for the Gracie Renergy juice)
Regarding the beets, we only juiced the root, and pulled out the green stem; but I learned this morning that there are actually more nutrients in the greens, so next time I’ll toss those in the juicer too.
The taste was pretty bland. Didn’t taste bad, just didn’t taste much of anything at all. But it was so full of nutrients and such that the lack of taste is easily outweighed by the health benefits.
Aside from that, yesterday we made a fruit juice using one pineapple, one cantaloupe, and a bunch of grapes. That drink was the shizzle. So good. But probably not nearly as nutritious, lol.
Any recipes you guys like? _________________

Vanilla,
I was expecting something regarding Overeem.
I'm a juicer as well. Ryron makes some great juices as well. There is probably a video floating around. My go-to veggie juice:
spinach, broccoli, ginger, carrot, beet, cucumber, radish. I go light on the ginger and radish due to personal taste. Broccoli is hard to juice unless you've got a great juicer. Stick with it. At first you don't notice the taste, but with time, your palate will really begin to pick up on the different tastes.
I do a lot of fruit juice and smoothies though.
Watermelon juice is awesome. The Roliday Rappiness smoothie was great as well. My juicer gets a workout. Check out some of the Gracie Academy videos on youtube. There are some delicious ones. Keep up the juicing. _________________ gracieacademy.com |

My daily juice:
Two green apples
Two red apples
Two carrots
One chunk of ginger (about the size of a large "shooter" marble)
Optionally, you can add:
1 kiwi
A few strawberries
A handful of berries
1/4 of a cucumber
The ginger is KEY! |

Both you guys use ginger a lot huh?
What are the benifits, or the reason why you use it? _________________

Calms the stomach, aids digestion, immune system booster, works a bit like tylenol to reduce swelling, tastes amazing. |

Ginger's supposed to be good for your stomach / gi dog. I'm a fan of juices myself. But I honestly don't have any specific recipe. On friday I take whatever fruit / vegetables are left and throw them in. _________________ ಠ_ಠ Giving out free neck hugs |

Our juicer is a nice $99 Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. It handles broccoli no problem, so far. _________________

V.G.-That's good enough. Broccoli can be tough to juice. I had an old cheap juicer that couldn't handle too much. My new juicer is pretty cool, though. _________________ gracieacademy.com |

LOL. Sure, why not pay a 256% premium for the Gracie name to be slapped on the side of a $100 product? _________________

My champion juicer is actually about...20 years old. Something close to that. It's that off yellow puke color like most other old appliances. Inherited it from my grandmother. It's so powerful though I swear you could use the thing to dispose of bodies.
( Poor example of its juicing ability but...yeah you know it totally could if you ever needed it to. ) _________________ ಠ_ಠ Giving out free neck hugs |

VG-Juicing is awesome. Careful, though. Some of these juices can make you pretty gassy, especially the broccoli juices.
I also use mine for banana ice cream. Just frozen bananas, but you'd
swear it was real ice cream. _________________ gracieacademy.com |

The reason I haven't got a juicer yet is because of the cleaning, I know if it was a hassle I just wouldn't use it.
Are there any that are quick and easy to clean, i.e. just chuck away the pulp and give it a rinse? |

Mine is like that. All centrifugal juicers are easy to clean.
Steps:
Make juice
Rinse juice collection container in hot water
Rinse plunger in hot water
Rinse stainless mesh basket in hot water, briefly scrub with a brush
Rinse mesh basket holder in hot water
Cleanup takes about 5 minutes, but you MUST not wait, you cannot let that stuff dry, you gotta do the clean up immediately before you even enjoy your juice. |

Cheers for that, it seems I have little excuse now, can you remove the mesh if you wish? Mainly for making veg soup is what I'm thinking, but not sure if that'll work. |

No, here is how it works.
The mesh basket is a shape like this: \__/
The bottom flat part has blades like a cheese grater, to slice up the fruits/veggies into pulp, and the sides of the basket are a very fine mesh. As the basket spins at some crazy fast speed, the centrifugal force forces the liquid out of the pulp and its collected and drained. The plup then tumbles upward and is slung into a collection container.
The single best tool for making veggie soup is a stick blender imho. |

With mine I've waited till I was done enjoying the juice, and then cleaned it. Haven't had any problems. But I'm a quick drinker. _________________
