So im pretty new to bjj (taken 4 classes so far) nd i can take people down and get the mount really easily because i wrestled, but when someone gets in my closed guard i really dont know what to do, i try to get control of their arms but lying on my back its tough to do especially yesterday when i was rolling with guys who had 50+ pounds on me. So when you have your closed guard what do you try to do first?

I control the head immediately with one arm so they don't sit up. With the other, I control the closest arm. This is called Stage 1 of the Guard. thumbsup

That's easy. I get passed.

Then again, I am very bad at Jiu Jitsu. Love it to death, but very very bad.

Stage 1 always: Break their posture and take head and arm control, then work for a sub or sweep.

If they try anything with the free arm, you go to stage two, which opens the door for a triangle.

i always go for a deeeeeeeep color grip to break down the posture and then try to control an arm. Its all a matter of preference as to how you go about doing it but there are only 4 important things you want to do in closed guard:

-break down posture and frustrate your opponent

- get dominant grips

-Prevent the pass

-work for sweep or sub

Oh, another thing that I learned from dealing with bigger guys (I'm about 5'10.5", 210 so I'm not small by any means) is that it SUCKS to be underneath them.

The friction alone makes it hard to shrimp, hard to work an elbow escape to half guard (if they are mounted), hard to make and keep space, etc...

What I did find is that against some of these bigger guys, once you break them down, they end up with a lot of weight on their arms, especially once they get tired.

From there you have options:

Trap and roll reversal if you can lock down an arm and the same side leg
Arm drag -> head and arm choke
Arm drag -> take the back

Depends what I feel at the moment.

If he's really intent on getting his posture up, I'll probably put one arm around the back of his head to keep his posture down, and consider using that for a bump sweep to triangle or kimura.

If he's not really fighting hard to get his posture, i'll try get a deep collar grip, and control one arm, and try for crosschokes and armbars.

Breaking posture is key...learn how to get that done well and you will be keeping them busy worried about maintaining posture more than expecting to look for an attack

prevent them from posturing up then this is just my bread and butter but go for lapel chokes or a nice strong arm drag to keep them down and attempt to take the back.

once you realize that as long as you have their posture controlled and that you have a ton of options to go on the attack you'll feel much more comfortable being there. Always remember when rolling with a larger opponent never stop moving. Typically the larger opponent will gas before the smaller.

Don't forget your legs' role in the whole collapse-their-posture thing... you can totally mess with them by bringing them forwards, back, to the sides using your legs...

In close guard have one hand deep in his collar and keep bugging his neck with chokes, if he str8 his arm out go for the armlock. It is very important to use your legs to rock him back and forth as you are going for the choke or break his posture.

With gi, feed that first hand deep on the collar, that sets up literally everything and you can control just about everything with it. If they don't respect your hand and attempt to break it, feed the other hand and choke em. If they start working on breaking your hand free, sweep em. Either way, it gives them something to worry about, and while they're dealing with that, set up all your other submissions. Walk your guard up to high closed guard and attack arms, attack the triangle, keep waiting for them to make a mistake and capitalize on it. The trick to a good closed guard is to be really active, if they're constantly defending submission attempts, they're not thinking about passing. As soon as you let them sit back for a minute and get comfortable, they're going to pass, don't let them get comfortable.

With no gi, control their head and break their posture, then fight for the overhook on one of their arms. Once you have that overhook, you can set up a million different attacks depending how the choose to defend it, but ultimately you can do any of those without breaking their posture.
