Hello JJF
After searching around for a forum to call home base for JJ info, I chose this one because it seems to be mostly practitioners in here (as opposed to some other forums where its 80% fans and UFC/K1/Pride discussions).
I just recently started training in Gracie Jiu Jitsu and I am absolutely loving it.
I was a wrestler for years, then switched to martial arts and never looked back. I studied TKD in a very decidated fashion for about 6 years, got my black belt, and decided that I'd like to become more well rounded, so I moved around from gym to gym, studying with each one for between six months and a year. I studied boxing, Akikdo, Judo, Kendo, and Iaido in a quest to both become a better overall martial artist, but also to find an art that really resonated with me.
I eventually burnt out on training and took a few years off, until a GJJ school opened in my area and I saw it as a sign to finally return to grappling (which is what I have always done best, I'm much more comfortable grappling than striking, even though I have way more years in striking arts).
BJJ is what I have always been looking for, I only wish I had found this amazing art sooner!
I'm training 4-5 days a week, so far injury free (I think the wrestling background helps to keep me from hurting myself when rolling), and I can't wait to get to class every day.
I just wanted to introduce myself, seems like a nice forum.
Chris. |

Thanks Jack.
I had been lurking on another forum that rhymes with "blur dog", but that forum just wasn't what I was looking for...this one seems much more laid back and supportive. |

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
Tonight should be a fun class, my first exposure to the triangle choke, and our class is being recorded so that the footage can be sent to Torrance for inspection by the Gracies.

Thanks double r, it definitely seems like a good forum. Not super active, but that is probably a good thing, anytime you have a forum with like 10,000 active members, the trolling is unmanageable.

| Hey man belated WELCOME!!! How did you come up with your username? A company called Parabellum used to make aftermarket windshields for BMW bikes and Vetter farings way back in the day... |

Man you brought this thread back from the dead!
So, my username is one I have used on a handful of forums now, its from the latin phrase "si vis pacem, para bellum" which translates to "If you want peace, prepare for war". It reflects my motto of trying to always be prepared for the unknown in life, cause this world can be a dangerous place.
Here is a strange co-incidence: Craig Vetter was a friend of my father's back in his university days, but back then no one had any idea that the guy who was tinkering with windshields would end up creating such a successful company. |

Eh, not entirely unintentional, I just figured this was a better thread on which to ask you about your username, than the other threads we're both on.

That's freaking crazy my first bike when I was 15 was a 1970 BMW with a Windjammer (I think the first ever aftermarket frame-mounted fairing, made by Mr. Vetter). I met Craig at one of the first rallies I rode that bike to. He and my dad were both been vendors at a lot of the same BMW rallies through the 80s and 90s.
That latin quote is pretty cool. I need to come up with something with a back story too lol. |
